Jeff's Blog - Wednesday, March 21, 2018 - New Center Buildings in Detroit, Michigan
The "New Center" neighborhood in Detroit, Michigan, is about 3 miles north of the main downtown district. It houses several historic buildings, the first of which is the Fisher Building. I just walked through the t-shaped lobby where the public is permitted and snapped these photos:
Then I walked across the street to the building now called Cadillac Place, formerly the GM Building, since it was GM world headquarters for 78 years, from 1923 - 2001. I worked in this building (actually, in a building connected by a sky walkway across Milwaukee Avenue) for 3 months in 1978 before I realized I'd never survive in a company so huge. Anyhow, a few pictures of the lobby follow:
Very nearby is the Maccabees Building whose lobby contains a lot of intricate mosaic artwork. The building is on the southwest corner of Woodward and Farnsworth, diagonally opposite the Detroit Institute of Arts. The photos I snapped are:
Finally, I went to the first building north on Woodward to continue my shots of the interior of the Detroit Public Library.
