Alaiedon District No 1 School, Alaiedon Township, Imgham County, Michigan
Location: 42.64011, -84.46307, at 1974 Hagadorn Rd (at Hagadorn & Holt).Alaiedon District No 1 School, at the southwest corner of Holt and Hagadorn Rds, in Alaiedon Township, is now a landscaping business. The red brick schoolhouse looks to be in good shape, with an intact wooden belltower covered with slats so no school bell is visible. There are 3 large arched windows on each side, and one on either side of the centered front door, and all the windows have 2 rows of end-on projecting brickwork arches, with a concrete medallion at the bottom of both ends of the arches, similar to those on the nearby Webb School. The rear-most of the 3 large windows on one side of the school has been converted into a door. The signs above the front door include the original half-circle plaque identifying the school as "District No 1", with an added-on sign below stating that it was a "Standard School", meaning one which conformed to the highest standards of Michigan one-room schoolhouses of the day. |
