Dibble School, Summit Township, Jackson County, Michigan

Location: 42.21475, -84.41784, on the grounds of the Ella Sharp Museum at 3225 4th St, Jackson, MI.

Dibble school (Summit District No 2) was built in 1885 for about $650 at the corner of Kibby and Robinson Rds. It was the third school building to stand at that corner. The first, was a log schoolhouse and its date of construction is lost. The second schoolhouse was built of stone in 1868. This third school is a rectangular wood-frame schoolhouse with 3 large windows on each side (one converted into a door), a single centered door in the front, with a window on either side of the door. The original school identification sign is gone. There is a bell tower, but it is enclosed with louvers, so I can't determine whether there is a school bell. The school closed in 1957 and was moved to Ella Sharp Museum Grounds in 1967 when it was donated by the Union School District of Jackson.
