Frog Mountain School, Ray Township, Macomb County, Michigan

Location: 42.737727, -82.900010, on the east side of Ray Center Road, between 27 Mile Rd and 28 Mile Rd.

Frog Mountain School (Warner School) was being eaten alive by time and vegetation when I first visited in 2017. The school was operational from before 1859 until 1953 or 1954. The school was named Warner School since the property surrounding it was owned by Warner Campbell, but later the school was given the nickname Frog Mountain since there was a lot of water around the schoolhouse, creating a mass of croaking frogs. The schoolhouse was a rectangular wood building with a centered front door and a window on either side of it. I was never able to determine where the side windows might have been.

The school was operation from before 1859 until 1953 or 1954. The back half of the school was blown off by a windstorm in late 2017 or early 2018, so the remaing front of the schoolhouse will be burned down in August 2018 since it is now unsafe.

The back 5/6 of the school was blown off by a windstorm in late 2017 or early 2018, so the remaining front of the schoolhouse was scheduled to be burned down in August 2018 since it was then unsafe.

Apparently that happened; this is what the site looked like on June 22, 2021. The darker green patch at lower-right is where the schoolhouse once stood. The book has closed on Frog Mountain.
