Banner Oak School is a brick schoolhouse built in 1871. It housed grades 1-8 until 1930 when grades 1-4 moved into a portable classroom. The last class used the building in 1955. The building became a voting precinct from 1955 to the 1960s, then a church, then a branch of the Monroe County YMCA, and is now a living history museum.
Decorative arched brickwork above the windows and front doorway add interest to the building, which now has a metal roof. A steeple still stands, but is enclosed by louvres, so I can't tell whether there is a school bell or not. The plaque above the door reads, "Banner Oak - School House - District No. 6 - Frank Ludwig - Builder, A.D. 1871".
