The Basilica of Saints Vitalis, Valeris, Gervase and Protase is located about 1-story below ground level on Via Nazionale. The portico (1st photo below) is the oldest part of the church, dating back to the 5th century. That 1st photo is taken from the top of the steps which lead down from street level to the level of the church. The simple nave of the church is shown in the 2nd photo below. The remaining 4 photos show the relief panels on the carved wooden entrance doors, depicting the martyrdoms of Saints Gervase and Protase.
