A Tourist in Rome - Via Margana 40A
Via Margana 40A is just a medieval tower-house with an interesting doorway. See it if you're close to it, but don't go out of your way. The doorway is framed in three pieces of elaborately coffered marble entablature, of Late Roman date, possibly from a church in the neighborhood. Embedded in the wall to the left of the doorway is a Late Roman Ionic capital on a granite shaft. It's all just an interesting oddity.
Immured to the left of the door of Via Margana 40A (a medieval tower-house) is a Late Roman Ionic capital on a granite shaft and to the right a larger entrance is framed in three pieces of elaborately coffered marble entablature, also of Late Roman date, possibly from a church in the neighborhood
