A Tourist in Rome - Gian Lorenzo Bernini

Gian Lorenzo Bernini was the man who remade Rome in the Baroque style. He was born in Naples on December 7, 1598, and died in Rome on November 28, 1680, a few days short of age 82. He was a leading artist and architect in Rome, and is credited with creating the Baroque style of sculpture. He is considered the successor to Michelangelo as the best sculpture of his day. His sculptures convey intense emotion and superb ability to make stone look like real life. His works are prominent in the Borghese Gallery, St. Peter's Basilica, St. Peter's Square and Piazza Navona.
