North Grove School (North Grove District No 6) was built in 1910 and in use until 1966, when it closed due to the children being switched to a school five miles south in Mayville. It is a gorgeous red brick structure with intricate white brick accents, which might account for the high price to build the school of over $1200 (about $32,000 in 2021). There are two huge arched banks of 4 windows each on both sides of the schoolhouse, letting lots of sunlight into the classroom. A foyer protrudes from the front of the building, with a large front door with a semicircular transom window above it, and windows to illuminate the cloak rooms on the side of that foyer. At the top of the foyer is the school identificaiton sign "North Grove District No 6, 1910", and above that is a large bell tower, but no school bell remains. The windows and front door have a simple concrete sill and are decorated on top with non-projecting brick arches above them. The corners of the building have white brick diamond-shaped decoration, and the bell tower has alternating long and short bricks at its 4 corners, like that used extensively on Peachbelt School, sometimes called "embroidery" brickwork. Over the years several changes were made to North Grove School, including a new furnace in the basement and relocation of the school's chimney to be in the central part of the building (the chimney is dated 1925 near the top), and the addition of indoor plumbing and bathrooms. An assessment of the building's structure in 2016 concluded that the building is "not salvageable" and plans have been made to raze the building due to its hazardous condition. Yet some locals have high hopes that it can be saved and used for reunions, weddings, etc. It still stands as of Feb 24, 2019. It would be a great loss if torn down.
